2. The government has suspended Shashi Shankar, the Director of the country's biggest oil producing company, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. on charges of irregularities. Shankar is the youngest director on the board of the nation’s most profitable oil company. He was appointed Director (Technical and Field Services) on February 1 last year.

Recognising the importance of easy access of credit, in the budget of 2014-15, a special fund of Rs. 2,000 crore has been created in National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for providing affordable credit to entrepreneurs for setting up of food processing units in designated Food Parks.

4. The report of the 14th Finance Commission was tabled in the Parliament by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. According to an Action Taken Report on the recommendations given by the Commission, the Centre has decided to devolve a much higher share of 42% of the Union’s tax receipts to the States. Compared to 2014-15, this will be a significant enhancement of 10% over the 32% during the award period of the 13th Finance Commission.

5. In a unique experiment State Bank of India (SBI) initiated a new loan collection model that allows borrowers to pay back on a daily installment basis. This initiative has been started primarily to keep bad loans in check. This first-of-its-kind loan product offering has been made to Olacabs. Olacabs is a renowned cab-hailing service company. Under the tie-up, cab owners associated with Olacabs can avail themselves of car loans from SBI on a preferential basis, with faster loan turnaround time.

10. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav presented a Rs. 3,02,687 crore budget for the financial year 2015-16 in the legislative assembly. The budget size this year is 10.2 per cent more than the previous year. It is an inclusive budget which has taken full care of infrastructure development as well as of villages, poor and farmers. Decision has been taken to observe the year 2015-16 as the 'Year of the Farmer'.
